Some files wou can delete, but some you should not. Do NOT touch (without reason): /var dir has stuff for X11R6 (like the driver itself or app-defaults for X progs and WMs, in some, maybe fonts) Most distros keep their config stuff under /var. Some distros may keep man pages under /var/man. If you use qmail, the default installation is mostly in /var. The spool files of locatedb, cron, at, lpd also lie here. I suppose all these should be left alone.
