We have Intel 845 in IBM PCs. I have used vesa option with video Ram set to 8 
MB in bios. This gives 1024x768 with 16 bpp. However as of now this works 
fine only once for graphics mode. Once you change from graphics mode to text 
it will not come back till reboot. I have not had time to investigate but 
there is a development version of XFree86, which seems to include the proper 
driver. I have not tried that as yet.
