Hi,
I have an iBall mouse (3 button, 4-way scroll, PS/2). Clearly, as
I understand of now, horizontal wheel-scroll is not to work on
Linux (mine is RHL/PCQ 7.1 running on a P-III).
I made the wheel work (vertical scrolling only) in X by setting
mousetype (through mouseconfig) to Microsoft Intellimouse P/2. But
this didn't work for console-mode operation(GPM). When I set the
mousetype to generic (3-button) PS/2, it worked with GPM but the
wheel ahad no effect in X. Then, I checked what gpm was doing at
startup under different mouse settings and appended the following
two lines in /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
gpm -k # to stop the GPM server
gpm -t ps/2 -m /dev/mouse # to start for generic mouse
Now, my mouse works alright in GPM as well as X, but what I wonder
is whether this is the right way to fix it or there is some better
way! And, is there any technique to make horizontal scrolling work
through the ball? (iBall mouse has a ball instead of wheel.)
Thanks,
Shantanu
