i would change for a couple  reasons.
i am not very confortable compiling my kernel to update.
so a new version is bound to have have a better kernel.

and a better version of the kde and gnome which again is a pain to compile
and install especially with the dependency spiral trap.

i am sure, geeks would prefer to patch their system rather than going thru
the whole installation process again .
