there is no notify variable in my conf file at all.. so i guess, the default
value for notify is assumed.
this is how my conf file on the slave server goes

version ""; // remove this to allow version queries
listen-on { any; };
//allow-recursion { clients; };
};
logging {
category lame-servers { null; };
};
// Standard zones
//
zone "." {
type hint;
file "root.hint";
};
