my info on windows is minimal at best and for handhelds they are pretty
non-existent. So all this just guess work, btw i understood that your
handheld runs win CE and you want it to talk to a linux box.

I heard that windows does come with an utility for transferring files over
the serial cable, its to be found somewhere in control panel i think its
called "direct connection". My guess is it probably uses some std protocol
like zmodem, so no harm trying it with minicom:zmodem/kermit. OTOH
microsoft would probably tweak the protocol a bit so its not workable.

You could use a windows kermit client, there must be some free ones around.

But ppp over null modem should definitely work. Start a ppp daemon at the
linux end specifying the ip and the serial port, connect it with a serial
cable to the port on the handheld. I am not to sure how to start ppp on
the windows end, by skipping over the dialling process, but it surely can
be done. List members should be able top help. Once the nework is up and
going the rest should be easy, setup an ftp or ssh client/servers for
the transfers
