A large data set? in MySQL?

I wouldn't risk it. PostgreSQL or Firebird. And ECC RAM.
Having just dealt with someone on IRC whose database loading was
corrupted by bad RAM, I would recommend ECC RAM for a production
database (he was about a third of the way through the initial insert 
after 24 hours).
