What about system logs? I don't think load on the server will cause it to reboot. In most cases it will just remain in a hanged state, waiting for human intervention and interpretation of any kernel dumps available on the screen.

I remember when I had a problem with an intel 1010 which was
suppossedly "rebooting", but was in fact receiving a "hard reboot" from support guys when they found it in a hanged state. There was a problem with the hard disk. Do not assume that performance issues are always software related. There are defective hardware components out there.
