So your theory of operation is something like this. You have a well configured server,
might be running well since years, suddenly you find out subsequent reboot happening
into it everyday at a specific time. Instead of finding causes, your simple solution
is to upgrade, in your terms, CRITICAL packages. Sounds funny.
Upgrades are normally required on Security issues. You didn't feel, neither you
mentioned wether there would have been chances for a compromise to your server.
Else upgrades are only required for a major feature change.
Okay, By now your machine is working fine. So have you been able to find out the
specific cause for the subsequent reboot ? Or, your answer is , " Just upgrade the
CRITICAL packages (cron, kernel etc) and you're done. "
