Hi all,

I have slackware 10/kernel 2.6.7 at home.(Athlon XP 2000+/512MB). It still takes 55 seconds to reach console login prompt. Of course this is not too good.

I watched the install process for offending stuff and nailed three guys. ldconfig, fc-cache and hotplug.

I modified /etc/rc.d/rc.M to put ldconfig and fc-cache update in background. Also modified /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug to start probing scripts in background.

That dropped the boot time to 30 seconds. But I could not get sound occasionally. So I left rc.hotplug in foreground. So the boot time is 40 seconds.

Check out. Does it boot fast enough at your place..:-)

I will try to find out more on the web and hack the things around. If results are good I will post them.

 Shridhar
