Thanks Binand...

lsmod shows e100 as the driver... drivers etc. are installed and ifconfig
shows everything ok only thing is none of the machines on the lan are
pinging...

Only thing is this machine is a dual cpu machine and by default FC1 loads
smp kernel... but it also creates an entry for the single CPU kernel in
grub.. I tried booting with both the kernels but still the same problem
persists...

Will further troubleshoot...
