Well, I found this (ref: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.0/handbook-amd64.xml?full=1) ************** Choose your kernel source and install it using emerge. Note: Running emerge gentoo-sources will fail due to a bug with the Universal Installation CD. Please make sure you run emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r1 instead. This has no further effect on your environment as Portage will automatically download a more recent kernel source when updating your system (after the installation). Code Listing 2: Installing a kernel source # echo "=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r1 ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords # emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r1 ************** The above does not work, not even with the 'r3' version on the CD. This shows they have released a flawed CD. I would not call this a "bug", the basic functionality is missing. The CD does not install!! I even went with the net-install, following their instructions. I was able to install the basic system, but nothing after that. Some mismatching complaints and that's it. Another piece of news from the Gentoo site - "Gentoo founder and former Gentoo Chief Architect Daniel Robbins began a new position at Microsoft on 23 May 2005." I think it would be wise to fiddle with Gentoo only after things have stabilised there and they come out with a more mature distro. -- K.Ghosh 093 910 58 749 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Debian GNU/Linux user No.301508 ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM.
