The correct way of applying custom patches to qmail and building the
deb is as follows:

1. apt-get install qmail-src
2. build-qmail
3. It will unpack into /tmp/qmail and pause for you to switch to
another terminal and patch the source.
4. Patch the source, come back to the original terminal running
build-qmail and continue.
5. (Hopefully) et voila.
