I've got an acer travelmate 292 (centrino laptop that came preloaded with rh
7.3) - got rid of the redhat, and installed slackware successfully, ran it
for almost a year. Then switched to ubuntu breezy (debian testing/unstable)
Both those work just fine. What issues are you facing?
