what you need is a partition. Partition your HDD for GNU/Linux and Windows.
Install Windows first and then install GNU/Linux. The difference b/w
partitioning and VMVARE is that
1) the cost difference is HUGE
2) you will be needing to reboot to switch operating systems.

If your system is not booting from CDROM /' floppy, it is most likely a bios
setting problem. Go to you CMOS setup and change the booting sequence to
FLOPPY/CDROM/C Drive

Don't worry. I did the same thing the first time I installed Linux. The second
try was better :-)
