I opened the dongle. Inside is a 5.9904 Mhz crystal. The crystal is hiding
a PIC16C54 (Microchip). The other stuff is really difficult to read. There
is an 8 pin chip - I think I read TC7660 which is DC to DC converter (makes
sense - there are some capacitors and diodes near it. Most of the components
(except for the IR LED/receiver and the crystal) are SMT mounted
on a tiny PCB which has also printed:

 COPYRIGHT 1998
 AEGIS TECHNOLOGIES
 FLAGSTAFF AZ
