I'm trying to get my Linux desktop (Redhat 6.0.2 with 2.2.5 kernel) to talk to a
Palm III so that I can sync over the IR interface which is an IRmate 210 from
tekram.

I switched on IR support in the kernel as modules and think I have all of the
other kernel config
settings in there correctly. I have tried BOTH irda-utils-0.9.4 AND 0.9.2 with
the same result...

When enter the following...

 /usr/sbin/irmanager -d 1 -s 1

...I get the following on the tail of /var/log/messages ...

Sep 14 13:26:09 alkaid irmanager: executing: 'echo alkaid >
/proc/sys/net/irda/devname'
Sep 14 13:26:09 alkaid irmanager: + 0.1 Fri Jul 25 11:45:26 1997 Dag Brattli

I tried updating my kernel to 2.3.17 and found that with IR support switched on
the kernel doesn't even compile. It complains about unresolved symbols, when
I look there are references to functions which are declared "static" from
outside of the file that they are declared in. Another thing is that the obex
option in "make xconfig" does not appear in the 2.3.17 (or 2.3.16) kernels. It
is in the 2.2.5 which comes off the RedHat CD.
Anyway the upshot is that the documentation in various places on the web is
out of sync with reality.

If anyone can help my immediate problem of getting itattach to work please
let me know.

    Regards
