I don't dial! I just start Minicom to get connected ;-) However you should
probably make a symlink from /dev/modem to /dev/ircomm0, or otherwise make
sure minicom is using ircomm0.

-irda5 only fixes a small compile problem with irport.c. If you don't have
compile problems, then there no need to upgrade.
