I've made some further attempts at getting my SH-888 to talk to my ISP. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 7000 using SIR on ttyS1. Redhat Linux 6.1 Under Win98 it works. However under Linux... Some time ago I got unpatched 2.2.12 working albeit intermittently. I managed to get some response from IrCOMM in unpatched 2.2.14 using irmanager and /dev/ircomm. With 'cu -l ircomm' I can send 'AT' commands to the modem and occasionally the chat script for ppp works (seems to either work fully or not get the initial "OK") but no pppd connection. I've since tried pre15. I've added the new devices to /dev and stuff to /etc/conf.modules and done irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s. By cat'ing the discovery file I can see it has recognised the SH-888. However when I try to connect to /dev/ircomm0 all I get is an I/O error. After several attempts sometimes I get an Oops. More recently I got this message on the console: Assertion failed! self != NULL, ircomm_core.c, ircomm_connect_request, line=207 Other info: /etc/conf.modules: alias tty-ldisc-11 irtty # alias char-major-60 ircomm_tty # if you want IrCOMM support alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty # if you want IrCOMM support /dev/ir*: crw-r--r-- 1 uucp root 60, 64 Mar 25 03:10 /dev/ircomm crw-r--r-- 1 uucp root 161, 0 Sep 29 03:27 /dev/ircomm0 crw-r--r-- 1 uucp root 161, 1 Sep 29 03:27 /dev/ircomm1 crw-r--r-- 1 root root 161, 16 Mar 23 02:51 /dev/irlpt0 Any pointers or suggestions appreciated.
