Hi!

I'm using the infrared port on the Sony Vaio PCG-C1F Picturebook,
accessing my Siemens S25, a Nokia 7110 etc. Dialup with GSM works,
as do IrLAN networking with my Toshiba Tecra 8000 - even using
IPSec (FreeS/WAN) for communication security :-)

You may have to call "setserial /dev/ttyS2 irq 10" to get IrDA
working properly... At least that made it all work with my Vaio.

You can find a page describing my setup at the following URL:
http://security.nta.no/vaio_ir.html
The startup script presented there needs some cleaning up though...
