Hello, I explain my experience with IrDA implementation on Linux. I have: kernel 2.2.16 irda-utils 0.9.10 ppp daemon 2.3.11 Dell Latitude Cpi 266XT with SMC FIR chip (works fine up to 4Mbps with Win95) First of all, bad things: 1) the documentation is old and confusing, both IR-HOWTO and on irda-utils 2) I get it work only with irtty module; I try with 'irport io=0x2f8 irq=3', it load perfectly but don't work (mean irdadump report nothing); I try with smc-ircc module; it load perfectly only after setting corresponding uart to none (instead of self-recognized 16550A) but still don't work (mean irdadump report nothing). 3) irmanager doesn't get any event from irda module (I put a BEEP line in the source code immediately after reading event and it never beep) so it doesn't load the appropriate module after recognizing an IrDA device. And now the goods are that all work perfectly with irtty and manually loading ircomm-tty (running only irattach and not irmanager and setting manually discovery to 1) with my Nokia 7110; I setup also a ppp interface and I surfed very good without problem (I read of some timing problem...); also work (but I have to discover what is possible to do) obex protocol with my 7110. One day I will test IrLAN (as soon I will have another notebook). Bye.
