Hi all,

I managed to put my Compaq Armada m300 with fir. I had to
hard wire the io addresses into the driver cos I dont
know how to do it properly.

The machine has a SMC37n972 which telling by the datasheets
is quite similar to the 37n58x series. It is similar enough
to be put to work with the current smc driver.

One of the differences is that the 37n972 allows the BIOS to
change it default configuration port at boot. While by
default it is at 370 or 3F0, in this machine after boot
it is no longer there and so I was unable to detect it as
well as configure/check the sir and fir io base.

To make it work I checked the sir and fir bases in windows,
bypassed the probe in the driver and hard wired ports 100
and 3e8.

The point is that I dont have a clue of whats going on
here with the chip. Where has the chip been mapped into?
Where is the configuration port? Where is this chip, since
I cant find it in the PCI bus nor with pnp tools.

Can someone explain me whats behind the scenes?

Thanks,
Rui
