As far as I remember, the fdb cache was not maintained in the RK;  
only in ~/.openrio/*/libkarma_fdb.gz.  There were some minor bugs
related with the management/compression of this file, but I think 
they were already fixed (but not very well tested).  On the other 
hand, there was older code which used fidNamesFile rather than 
libkarma_fdb.  Also, riocp did not provide good support for using 
the fdb feature (in fact I think it assumed older fidNamesFile 
code and so it was pretty useless).  In any case, I guess Franky 
can provide better info...

At one time, I thought about using the fdb feature to support 
arbritary directory structures and file names in lkarmafs.  This 
may desserve further thought...
