Yeah, both are needed.  You can get the source to g-v-m to see where
it is dying (that's what I did) - it's only one C file so just grabbing
the source with apt and looking at line manager.c:2403 might help, 
but it is probably the missing volume.fstype...

If you get the new USB patch discussed earlier on the list (or wait for
kernel 2.6.19) then eject and unmount should hopefully work.
