Huh? <TAB> *is* supposed to be equivalent to <SPACE> according to RFC822.

LWSP-char   =  SPACE / HTAB                 ; semantics = SPACE
linear-white-space =  1*([CRLF] LWSP-char)  ; semantics = SPACE
                                            ; CRLF => folding
