Quite. Been around a while, but never picked up wide usage...
What I don't think it allows is sub directories of sub directories of a directory that has not been defined at startup. There is only one layer of dynamic creation possible. So we can only do /config/iio/triggers/hrtimer/instance1 if we have hrtimer defined in the core. That's pretty much a non starter and why (I think) the gadget driver uses the <type>-instance name syntax to avoid the same problem.
