Hello, I m in the same state !!
With a corel linux 1.0 and with a red hat 6.0, it
works fine, but not with a mandrake 7.02.
I try with printtool, printerdrake, linuxconf, and
manually too , and I can t make it work ..

I can print a file by using this :
>smbclient //host_name/share_name -U username
then give your password.
After that you got a smb prompt.
SMB>
you can print a file by using
SMB>put file_name

It works !

The queue (lpq) works too, but the link between
twice doesn t !!

Any help ?

The print service (lp) on remote samba printer (windows printer) doesn t
work on mandrake, and work fine on red hat.

The mandrake version has a many powerful tools too develop on kde
environment. kdevelop, kdbg, ...
If you want their tools on a red hat machine, download them and be
careful on the release number of all modules...

No more difference.

Subject: pound sterling on US keyboard?
Date: Tue, 16 May 2000 15:21:28 GMT

I have Linux installed on a machine with US keyboard.
Is there a (somewhat) simple way to get the UK pound sterling symbol?
I imagine there is something involved with loadkeys or xmodmap.

I did dumpkeys -l and found
keycode 0x00a3 sterling

If I type alt + shift + 3 I get the pound sterling sign. This works
under X but only for bash console and pico, not in any other
application. Is there a simple way to set things up so I can get pound
sterling always with this key combo?

Thanks very much for any help.

No. But I imagine the alternative might be better if Microsoft made
its code open. Better for those of us who use Samba or similar products.
I assume that if MS did not copy "any code", they'd just continue with
the status quo, producing shoddy software offering weak encryption in
its system software and vulnerability in its user software. That'd
be bad thing, I guess.

I don't know if it'd be better if Kerberos was under GPL, as Microsoft
probably would not "embrace" something it could not "extend and
extinguish". Because this isn't simply Microsoft using the freedom to
extend the product. Microsoft is attempting to prevent interoperability
with your extablished Kerberos servers. In doing so, Microsoft is not
just using the open-source Kerberos product, it's also attempting to
subvert it.

Does your statement that "There are no suprises here." mean that
you agree with the central point I was trying to make: that sometimes
there _is_ reason for concern, reason beyond paranoia? Certainly,
recent findings from the U.S. Supreme Court suggest that this is more
than paranoia.

I have mounted the fat partition to a /win98 mount point, but I can not

do I have to chmod/chown on the /win98?

is it a /etc/ftpaccess file fix?

If so, could use some help on the syntax!

This is a matter of opinion. Some of us like slackware and hate all the
silly guis that just get in the way. Of course they can be uninstalled but
I prefer the simplicity of Slackware.

Sounds asthough B's running something that the others arent.
When you set up new users to test it, did you do that on
B's machine/desktop? See if B can access use Netscape
when logging in through another box, but I don't know much
about your setup there so most of this might be redundant.

Even with some of the funkier 'this will break things' options
turned on, mkisofs manages to create images that Windows can
        deal with.

Might this person be running into the 'lets BSOD on reading a
Rock Ridge disk' problem that certain revisions of NT4 has?
This was the first thing I encountered when I started burning
        discs.

[deletia]

Without going to the trouble of mastering an ext2fs CD, I don't
see how this fellow could manage to make a disc Windows couldn't
        deal with.

There are also localization differences between Win95 and Win98.
They likely aren't relevant here, but there are some CD's that are
readable on Win98 but not on Win95.

You might want to check out /etc/nsswitch.conf and make sure that "files"
