Hi,

I am trying to write a simple RPM script for Wine package (be it sed,
perl, awk, etc.) to capture linked files in some directories and
recreate such links on other directory. For instance, the Wine package
produces a lot of linked files in its lib directory as shown in the
attachment (not to mention the bin directory where a lot of linked files
are linked to wine file). In order to package Wine using RPM, I should
be able to recapture the linked files and create such linked files after
the Wine RPM package is installed.

I am a no expert in sed, perl, awk, or any other script guru. I am
hoping someone here can help me to write or come out with such a
script. TIA.

"Small" and "SQL" are, to this point in time, pretty much mutually
exclusive.

The problem _appears_ to be that once you build the SQL parser, you've
got enough of a body of code that there's little point in _not_ moving
on to something "less-than-embeddable."

There are several directions you might go in:

a) There are DBs based on or similar to Raima
<http://www.raima.com/>
<http://www.dbstar.org/>

Look also for "MetalBase" and "Typhoon," pretty old and
not-much-maintained "free" options...

b) There are all sorts of table/key systems like Berkeley DB that
don't provide the sophistication of the SQL language but which are
   readily embeddable.

   <http://www.hex.net/~cbbrowne/nonrdbms.html>

c) Some commercial RDBMSes provide SQL support and _are_ targetted to
the "embedded" market. Empress, Sybase, Interbase, and Solid have
   been billed this way.

There may soon be a suitable "open source" release of Interbase...

There are also some plans to attach "embeddable" data stores to both
MySQL and PostgreSQL; the basic idea is to hook in the "control" side
as libraries, and replace the present "heavyweight" data stores with
something lighter. There has been mention of the notion of having
Berkeley DB be the embedded data store...

Sorry, but the installation supports only the old Mylex controllers with
U2W/SCSI and not U160/SCSI controllers. So I'll need to create a RedHat 7 Setup
or Driver Disk with a new patched kernel that I have build before, but I don't
have any idea how to do that. I need any specs for RedHat Driver Disks and how
to create them.

If someone out there has any idea, please don't wait to tell me!!!!! I need
that computer as soon as possible.

Greetings, Sebastian.

Hello,

AFAIK you have to run sendmail -q
That will drop/deliver the mail from your /var/spool/mqueue/ to
/var/spool/mail/<username>

It's not listed. (It does however show up with 'mpg123 -h'.)

My delimiter *is* '-- ' and the sig changes on every post. Some ideas
cannot be easily expressed in two lines. IOW, FU, MYOB.

I agree with the other reply... this shouldn't be a problem... and one step
easier than an IDE/ATAPI drive.. since you're already dealing with SCSI.

btw... the key to getting burners to work is usually 'cdrecord' - do a
search for it on http://freshmeat.net, check out the homepage, download the
source, read the documentation, etc... There are links off the cdrecord
page for everything you ever wanted to know about cd-burners and related
projects.

I suppose that will do the trick for the partition that contains (only)
the root file system. But it will still get upset about all the other
file systems. So you will need to figure out how to handle those. Why
not have an "on-off" button that causes shoutdown -h now to be executed?
If the box has a UPS on it, have the on-off switch between the UPS and
the wall, so the UPS can cause a controlled shutdown.

In a really well-configured system (mine is not one of them), the root
partition can be mounted read-only.

> Presumably I can mount these with a ramdisk.

Your system could still write to the other partitions. /tmp and /var
come to mind. It will not need to do much writing if it gets a sudden
power failure. If you are running normally, depending on what you are
running, you will need writable partitions and these will get screwed up
if you just power down without doing shutdown -h now (or equivalent).

I do not know the right way, but somewhere in one of the startup
scripts, you could use the mount command to remount it read-only.

You should have configured your mouse when you were installing it. The
installation program specifically asks you about it if it cannot figure
it out by itself. My mouse, for example, is not a serial mouse, so it
does not use a COM port at all. (Uses a PS/2 port.) The install program
automatically figured out what port it was on and its IRQ.

This should not be all that difficult. My mouse has a label on it that
says what it is. "Logitech OEM Mouseman" Yours probably does too.

Look at the back of your computer where the mouse plugs in. You should
be able to figure out what serial port (if it IS a serial port) it is
plugged into. Typically COM1 (i.e., /dev/ttyS1). You may need to refer
to the instruction manual for the mother board in your computer if the
mouse plugs right into the edge of the mother board. If you had
installed Red Hat Linux correctly, it would even have made the link
/dev/mouse to your actual port.

> same thing goes for

Wrong. You tell the computer which it is when you configured the modem
(with the little dip switches on the modem board). Actually, unless your
computer was screwed up, you do not even need to look at the modem board
because the system detects this at bootup. You do have to answer the
questions the installation program asks you correctly.

> How do I make teh

That will not work. If you do tell the system the COM numbers and IRQ
numbers, you have to be right.

> That doesn't seem to be working...
>

I think your best bet is to reinstall Linux, but to read the
installation manual first. Since you are installing Red Hat 6.x, the
name of the manual is "Red Hat Linux 6.0 Installation Guide". (Yours
probably says 6.2, of course.)

I haven't used X in a number of months. Now I need to install a new version of

I checked /var/log/messages, and it appears to be detecting the mouse (or at least the

other places to look? Thanks for any help.

Then that drive is not bootable with any BIOS based bootstrap.

Exactly. That's what I tried to tell.

Microsoft products do not care - they boot from the first disk always (NT
and followers read ntldr from the first disk and thereafter it's a totally
different story without BIOS).

If Microsoft does not care - neither do the hardware manufacturers. Pity.

Welcome to the light!

Most of what you're asking about is, in one way or another, part of
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) and I suggest
that you find a good book on TCP/IP for beginners. The "Dummies" book
will take you part of the way, but you'll probably want something
meatier if you start getting interested in the subject.

You really need to understand the basics before some of the possible
explanations can make sense. For example:
> you can use eth0 for the dhcp thing and ppp0 for your dialup two
> separate entities two separate ip's

eth0 is the device via which Linux talks to your network card, DHCP is
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (the method a server uses to
assign IP addresses to nodes on a network), ppp0 is the device used to
communicate with the Internet via your modem, and so on. Now, how much
wiser are you? Just giving you definitions of the terms doesn't give
you the wider background in which the terms are used.

You might also check out the Networking-Overview-HOWTO, although the
HOWTOs usually assume a certain level of prior knowledge.

There's also the ext2tool utilities which work from the DOS command
line, which is useful for batching jobs.

It works for me using Mandrake 7.2 (GNU find version 4.1). Maybe it's
just the version that came with your distro. Try it again as:
find / -xdev -name *.txt -print
