Hi, Claudia.

Thank You for advice, I'll check it but this probably is not the issue. I'm not sure whether CUPS starts from inetd, I presume not, but the pause before printing is EXACTLY SAME everytime. About 4 secs. The machine is powerfull enough (AthlonXP1900+) and starting the print daemon surely dosen't take him so long. Mainly the second time and later, when it should be already in cache. The start of OpenOffice.org is faster ;o)

The printer timeout dosen't affect this problem, I checked this. I'll try again however.

And it dosen't depend on machine nor printer! Maybe it depends on the version of CUPS, cause I use Debian Woody everywhere.

What is really interesting: the pause appears ONLY if printing from DOSEMU. Oter print jobs start immediately.

Thank You again.

What could be the reason of the problem? And can somebody help?

Did you put a

$_printer_timeout = (1)

in your $HOME/.dosemurc?

Otherwise it is a problem of your printer spooler. With CUPS I have a little pause with printing the first time in the morning after starting CUPS and DOSemu. After that it always prints immediatly the whole day long (if there is enough paper ;-)).

Could it be that you configured your printer spooler starting with inetd. Then it will take a pause every time you start printing. Start your printer spooler as daemon.
