I use Debian testing/unstable with cupsys-1.1.15-4. With CUPS you should install a printer only printing in raw mode. Give the printer a short name say "raw". But the printer name in /home/user/.dosemurc with $_printer="raw". Try making the "raw" printer the default printer. CUPS has made a file /etc/printcap.cups. Copy the file to /etc/printcap (without cups).
