Module dependencies shouldn't have anything to do with the boot process
unless you have IDE or SCSI as modules. You need a proper kernel - I'd
advise not booting with either as modules if your primary drives are IDE &
SCSI. Why couldn't you write the MBR? Have you configured lilo properly?
It's supposed to allow for your sort of config.
