I also experienced problems with that driver.
I noticed that when small packets are exchanged there are no problems. But
when a large transfer is initiated (ftp for instance) whe interface dies,
and should be hardware itialised. 
I've not investigated the problem and not debugged the driver, but I hope
this info will be usefull to those that deal with that.
