Redhat (at least 5.2) comes with a tool named pwunconv, i don't know if
debian includes the same. Under Redhat it's located in the

[thomas@gw-ips thomas]$ rpm -q -f /usr/sbin/pwunconv
shadow-utils-980403-4

package.
