Hiya - just in the process of setting up our new file server so will
probably have a run of dumb questions to share with you all...
First on being as to how the network should be set up.
Networks available:
10 Base ethernet
100 Base ethernet
ppp internet connection
the hardware is:
Workstations - 100Base etherenet
File server - 100Base ethernet
Internet gateway - 10 base ethernet, 100Base ethernet, ppp connection
Printer - 10 Base ethernet
we have one ip range - 203.41.84.64/27
currently we have all workstations and servers on 10Base network, the
100Base file server is the new machine - and with it we have 100base cards
for our workstations and a new 100 Base hub. initially I just set up the
new server with a spare ip from our range, with normal 255.255.255.224 and
added a 100base card to the exising server with a new number from the
currnet range... was not too sure it would work but a 'more TCP/IP
knowledgeable person' than myself assured me that all should be fine...
anyway - the network was being really dodgy and I just wanted to clarify
whether it was possible to have two separate ethernet networks running
numbers in the same IP series... or will I have to subdivide our allocated
range? If subdivision is the way to go then how would I go about that?
Thanks in advance, dan.
