For whatever reason, sendmail is taking an awefully long time to accept
a message when I use it as a relay host. For example, I have it as my
SMTP server in Netscape, and when I send a message it will sit there for
a long time waiting for my mail server to accept the message. I've
watched the 'ps ax' output as sendmail accepts/receives/sends the
message and it sits in the accept part for quite a while. Could this be
a DNS problem or something along those lines? Here's some output:
sendmail: server foo.com [111.111.111.111] child wait
sendmail: OAA29288 foo.com [111.111.111.111]: RCPT TO:< ...
Pretend that foo.com and 111.111.111.111 are the domain name/IP address
of my machine from which I am sending the mail...what's this 'child
wait' process?
Using sendmail 8.9.3 on Red Hat 5.1 (2.0.36)
Thanks in advance for any help!
Chris
