Long time since I addressed Sendmail.
>From my memory: in sendmail.cf there is a flag that tells to queue
messages.
Starting Sendmail as a daemon there is a -q option that tells how
often the queue is emptied. Often it is -q30, so 30 minutes.
Look in the config file, the key may be there.
Don't forget to refresh the daemon and/or rebuild the 'condensed'
version of the config file, depending on what Unix ;<) and Sendmail
you have after updating the config file..
