web server

Hi friends,
           How is it possible that several URL's e.g, www.xyz.com,
www.abc.com, www.def.com etc., can be used to access individual  
( different ) webpages from the same web-server ?

  If it is not possible, then how are the web pages of different
people accessed from the same web server without applying suffix
to the FQDN of the server ?
