Hi,
I have 2 NE2000 compatible ethernet cards That I m trying to install on my
Linux PC(redhat5.0,kernel2.0.32).
The first one was successfully recognized as an NE2000 ethernet card
during the install process and everything is
OK for it.
But my second ethernet card (hardly need to install it for routing purposes)
is causing me headaches:
The docs suggested to open the case of my PC, physically install it, then
reboot.
And normally I m supposed to have it automatically recognized by the kernel.
No, it s not part of my booting arguments and ifconfig command ignores it.
I also couldnt manually configure it with ifconfig(error=No such device) and
trying to load it as module failed.
So, I went recompiling kernel but none of the numerous ethernet devices
options were
compatible with mine (I have a Linksys Ether PCI II LAN card, which can
easily work
as NE2000 compatible). I chose NE2000 compatible and all the other devices
that were
closed to my PCI ethernet card. Even options for ISA card were chose. And I
carefully made sure that
they re not chosen as modules, but mainly as static network interfaces.
Same old problem.
That didnt change anything.

I ve read Ethernet How TO, serial How to ..lot of docs(include the
excellent Network Toolkit book
by Paul G.Sery)
But I still need help.

Thanks
