Hello, I have kernel that is doing funny things. When I ping the gateway on the network, both lo and the target ip responds to the ping resulting in duplicate packets. The gateway obviously refuses to route the packets. If I down the lo interface, then no duplication but also no routing on the gateway. Can anybody tell me if there is a better way to understand the detailed workings of networking and where can I get this info. I have recompiled a new kernel. I have replaced the network card with both new ISA and PCI cards. I have rigged a new machine and transfered the HD to the new machine. Same problem.
