Hello,
I have 6 EtherExpress PRO/100+ PCI Adapters working well in Linux
machines. Recently I purchased one more to update an old Usenet News
machine with a 100mbs card.
This is what I noticed. All files transfers over say about 1Mb got
corrupted in some way. The corruption happened at different places in
the file. If I transfered a file with all 0 bits and DIDN'T type
anything the transfer of files over 33Mb worked fine. If I typed
something over the net to the machine during transfers the 0 bit per
byte file WOULD corrupt. This also happened with all 1 bit per byte
files. If the file was normal (random bits per byte) the file would
NEVER transfer correctly.
The same seemed to happen on linux-2.2.3 and 2.2.5. I have since moved
back to the 3c509 ISA card and all seems well. BTW: i tried two
different ethernet cards, and I tried both at auto-detect, forced 10mbs
and forced 100mbs duplex and half duplex. The machines were connected
via a Cicso switch that I've never had any problems using. I tried file
transfers to linux boxes and Digital Unix boxen.
