How come that my Linux machine with Samba shows up as NT in the properties
in explorer on win9x and as NT 4.2 in various M$ network utilities on NT?
smbclient on Linux does identify it as samba and Linux of course.
Have any of you expierenced similar lies with other smb servers?
Maybe M$ has mapped each competing product to a non existent NT version
number, and we could assemble a list of them for public ridicule ;-)
It's of couse something they do so that they can say "see no one uses any
competing products - NT has 100% marketshare".
A real pity you can no longer telnet to www.microsoft.com and have it say
"welcome to Unix SYSV" in the logon banner, it was loads of fun to show it
to dumb M$ loving mid level managers ;-)
