Try reading /etc/smb.conf...
# server string is the equivalent of the NT Description field
server string = Apollo RedHat 6.o Samba Server 2.o.3
Or whatever you wish. I'm using smb 2.0.3 on a rh6 2.2.9 box. Works
fine.
