Does anyone know where the source for ping can be downloaded?

I'm trying to implement my own ping inside my simulation process
but I'm running into some problems. I have two boxes connected via
PPP through a null-modem cable. My PC is a RH 6.0 (2.2.5-15) and
the the other is Solaris 2.6 x86. I need to wait for the PPP to
establish the IP addresses before I start. So my proposed solution
is to ping the Solaris machine. My problem is that with my test program
to generate/receive ICMP echo/replies works on a LAN but when I try
to use it over the PPP, I don't get the replies. With tcpdump, I can
see the replies on the PPP but my raw socket doesn't get it.

few things to note:
I have the IP_HDRINCL option set on the raw socket. (should only affect
sending right?)
I have the SO_RCVBUF set to IP_MSS or 576.
I have the slhc, ppp, bsd_comp, and ppp_deflate modules loaded.

Am I missing something crucial for PPP links?
Does anyone know where the source for ping can be downloaded?
Also would any of the previous modules cause the IP_TOS field to
not show up on tcpdump over the PPP?

Thanks,
Tuan
