Hi there

I'm stuck with a problem.

A new hosted server running RH 6.0 on a single-processor PIII box with
an Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 runs for about 8 hours and then
suddenly the outbound pings shoot sky high and eventually the box stops
responding to the outside world.

The box is completely firewalled out save for ssh, web and ftp.

ifconfig doesn't report anything interesting (1 RX error)

The pings to the router/gateway aren't affected (0.1ms), the pings to
any other machine are really high.

The router isn't the problem - pings in to other machines on the same
network are fine, pings to the affected machine are high.

There is major packet loss.

There is not any major server load when the problem occurs.

Any ideas? The only thing that adds up would be a problem with
reverse-IP/ident lookups if the firewall is blocking them.

Running Apache/1.3.6 with 4 virtualhosts on the same IP address.

Any tips appreciated.

Nick.
