If it is in fact an NE2000 compatible, you can go "modprobe ne.o". Then go
"ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1". Then "route add -net 192.168.1.0 eth0"

Subject: terrible time with an HP pavilion 4440

I'm a total newbie so please go easy on me.

I'm trying to setup an HP pavilion as a dual-boot win98 and Linux 6.0 with
networking using a LinkSys Ether16 LAN card.

To begin, I was able to install the card and get it running properly under
win98 by using the card in pnp mode.

It's using the NE2000 compatible driver. It's IRQ is automagically set to
5 and it's I/O automagically set to 0280-029F

when I boot into Linux, of course the eth0 initialization is 'delayed' and
'failed'.

I used linuxconf to set the settings the same as they are in Win98, but no
luck.

I've also had no luck by, after the fact, going back into the card config.
software under DOS and disabling the PNP.

I'm truly lost.

Any help appreciated.

J.
