I purchased (2) ISA Linksys 10mb cards (PnP).
I used the setup software to disable the PnP for linux use.

Both cards have different NIC addresses according to the
stickers. When I ran the setup program, however, the NIC
is coming up the same for both cards (each installed one
at a time and only one in at a time). Even when linux
reads it reads it as the same MAC.

If I configure card#1 with i/o of x300 and IRQ 5 it works
perfect. It's MAC comes up ... 71 12 10

If I configure card#2 with i/o of x320 and IRQ 3 it works
perfect. It's MAC comes up ... 71 12 10

If I try to start up with both cards in place:
card#1 i/o x300 IRQ 5
card#2 i/o x320 IRQ 3
my bootup reads:

ne.c:v1.10 9/23/94 Donald Becker ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x300:<4>eth0: interrupt from stopped card
 failed to detect IRQ line.
ne.c: No NE*000 card found at i/o = 0x300
/lib/modules/2.2.6/net/ne.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
ne.c:v1.10 9/23/94 Donald Becker ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
NE*000 ethercard probe at 0x320: 00 40 05 71 12 10
eth1: NE2000 found at 0x320, using IRQ 3.

/proc/interrupts shows:
3: 1 XT-PIC NE2000
5: 540 XT-PIC NE2000

/proc/ioports shows:
0300-031f : NE2000
0320-033f : NE2000

linksys tech support doesn't seem to have any idea why
both cards are showing the same NIC, even though they
show different NIC's on the eeprom stickers (supposed to
be ... 71 12 13 & ... 71 12 14)

Could the reason why if won't initialize with two cards
be because the NIC is the same?

I have in rc.modules
/sbin/modprobe ne io=0x300
/sbin/modprobe ne io=0x320

and in conf.modules
alias eth0 ne.o
alias eth1 ne.o

I'm considering returning one of the NIC's for another
MFG, just so the MAC's will be different. and go from
there??
