You didn't say if you we're doing this in an NT domain or not, if
you're not I can't be much help here, if you are using an NT domain
then read on...
Are you running the NT box as a domain controller? If so, you'll
need to create an smbpasswd file and use encrypted passwords.
Check out the docs on how to do this -- Passwords.txt and
ENCRYPTION.txt.
If you're just trying to look at \\Linux in Network Neighborhood, and
it's not letting you in... I had the same problem when I first set up a
Samba server in an NT domain. You have to enter the NT box as
the password server in smb.conf.
Look at DOMAIN.txt and DOMAIN_MEMBER.txt in the Samba
docs.
Are you trying to map a network drive to \\Linux ? You can't do
that. You have to create a share to map to (i.e. \\Linux\MyNetDrive).
If you have an account on the linux box, then just uncomment the
[homes] share in smb.conf and map to:
\\Linux\YourHomeDir
