Denis,

How do you figure that Token Ring is slower than Ethernet? If you are
looking at 16 Mbit TR vs 100 Mbit shared Ethernet, I'd say there is probably
little difference in a real world environment. Switched Ethernet is
obviously better, but you come closer to the cost of implementing a simple
TR mau and adapters.

If you want to compare gig Ethernet you need to first find a machine with
enough CPU power to handle around 82,345 CPU interrupts per second - the
number of packets it takes to fill a 1 Gig pipe with 1518 byte packets
unidirectionally. Double it if you want to utilize the full 2 Gig available!
Token Ring can already handle packets of up to 32 Kbyte, as I recall. Even
"Jumbo Frames" only give 8 Kbyte Ethernet packets, plus you need to invest
in hardware that can support the technology.

Token Ring is still a viable solution, however only in very specific
situations and not for the technically challenged!

Tokenring is very outdated and not nearly as fast as Ethernet. Tokenring was
the way to go in late 80's and early 90's, Ethernet is now :-)
