Look at the documentation on Ghostscript (does printing) and Ghostview
(allows viewing).  Both are found in most archives.  There is also a
printing routine ?ez-magic? (sorry but the name escapes me just now)
that acts as a filter/print controller which determines what the file
is and routes it through the appropriate filter/formating routines.
It uses Ghostscript and several other packages.  But it allows for 
almost seamless printing of text and graphics on your printer.
