RE: "ifconfig eth1 up" lockup

Just loaded redhat 6.1 with the 2.2.12 kernel, and it seems that 

ifconfig eth0 up

with the eepro100.o module causes the system to lock up when the card is
attached to a 10/100 switch. its ok when disconnected or connected to a
10mb/s hub.

Any ideas?
